Devotional Thought

Psalms 119:105

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

Praying for our friends!

Job 42:10

I'm sure you have heard and or read the story of Job and how at the end of his affliction the Lord restored him two fold! I just wanted to focus in on one verse that has stuck out for me in my studies.

Verse 42:10

And the Lord restored Job's losses when he prayed for his friends, Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before!

Now let me first mention that this is not a free ticket to just getting what you want from God but there is an important message I think worthy of notice.

Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar were Job's so called friends. Good intentions or not, they apparently made God upset when they disparaged His name.

In the process of making atonement with them He allowed them to bring their burnt offerings, but it was Job's prayer that would be heard. (vs. 8) "I, (the Lord speaking) ...will accept him (talking about Job)  It was only the prayer of Job that would be accepted.

Thoughts to ponder

1. We would do well to have good friends that are close to the Lord who can get a prayer through....you know, just in case somehow we are currently unworthy!

2. Praying for our friends is a God given duty as well as privledge! The Lord will bless us for blessing others!

James 5:16 says Confess your trespasses to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervert prayer of a righteous man (or women) avails much!

So maybe it's time to shorten our want, wish, need, list and add a few friends, neighbors or just somebody else to our prayers.
